Thames Lightermen among the Rhinos on D-Day - Normandy Landings

A short article I wrote about the Lightermen and the Rhino Ferries on the D-Day landings in Normandy.

 

I mention the Rhinos propulsion being of the Schottel type, so have added a magazine advert to give an idea of the system.

 

Unit flashes worn on the upper arm.

Introduced in 1941, each unit had its own flash.

 

The proclamation to the right is from the liberation of Nijmegan and below it the liberation of the Netherlands with list of the flashes.
